Mardi Gras 22' Sock Pack

Krewe of Kicks will be releasing two new sock colorways to celebrate carnival season in New Orleans. In a direct reference to Mardi Gras, ‘The Krewe’ has designed a purple sock and a green sock which are two of the fundamental colors of the holiday. During this time of year, shades of purple and green are overwhelmingly seen on everything from king cakes, to beads, to decorations, to parade floats, and to apparel being worn by people on parade routes. To exhibit all of those shades of purple and green which paint the city, the socks feature layers in a wavy pattern of four shades of purple and four shades of green. Catching your eye on the upper two wavy layers of each crew sock is the bold white Krewe of Kicks logo, and prevailing among Krewe of Kicks socks are the words “The Krewe” which can be read in white across the toes.

To honor the history of Mardi Gras, it was only right that the names of these colorways be pulled from the origin story of how these colors became the primary colors of the season. According to various accounts and researchers, the colors purple, green, and gold were chosen for the first Rex parade in 1872. These colors were chosen to honor the visiting Russian Grand Duke Alexei Alexandrovich Romanoff. Many believe that three colors were chosen because flags from countries like France, Great Britain, and the United States all contained just three colors. Back then, gold was an obvious choice as a means to honor royalty. Purple and green were then chosen as they were two of the five color options for the coat of arms that could be accepted for royalty. Rex would use these colors for the parade which carried the theme of “Symbolism of Colors”. In standing with that theme, gold represented power, green represented faith, and purple represented justice. Therefore, the green and purple colorways have been given the names “Green Faith” and “Purple Justice”, respectively.

Look for these Mardi Gras themed socks to release in the coming week. The socks will cost $12 each and can be ordered on this website or through direct message or email for local drop off. Official and on-foot images of both socks are below. Stay tuned on the Krewe of Kicks Instagram page for the official release dates.
